Wooden chess boards, crafted boards
A wooden chess board on its own, to welcome pieces you already own or to put together your own set. Our boards are handmade in Poland by a family workshop of cabinetmakers: walnut, mahogany, wenge or padauk marquetry, with or without coordinates.
Size 4 or size 5: start from your pieces
A wooden chess board is chosen first by the size of its squares. The board number sums it up, and your pieces need to sit comfortably on it.

Two examples: the No. 4 wenge and maple board for a living-room table, the No. 5 padauk and maple for larger pieces.
A frequently quoted rule of thumb: the base of the king takes up about three quarters of a square. If in doubt, measure your pieces before choosing, or see our chess board guide.
Coordinates, marquetry, folding: the options
- Coordinates: the letters and numbers around the edge help you record a game and follow an analysis. This is the case with the No. 4 walnut and sycamore with coordinates.
- Without coordinates: a cleaner board, like the No. 4 mahogany and sycamore.
- Folding board: the folding No. 5 folds away for storage. The board in a folding case also houses an insert for No. 4 Staunton pieces.
- Marquetry board: the squares are assembled veneers; the contrast comes from the woods themselves, such as walnut and sycamore.
