Luxury chess sets, hand-carved
A luxury chess set is as much a work of art as a game. This selection brings together our most refined sets, handmade in Poland by a family workshop of cabinetmakers: carved, weighted or brass-inlaid pieces, marquetry boards and cases up to 58 cm.
What makes a luxury chess set
- Hand carving: on Grand Siècle as on Empereur, the pieces are carved by hand, with a 140 mm king.
- Brass inlays: Varsovie, based on an old Polish design, has them on its cherry wood pieces as well as on the sides of the case. Orfèvre combines them with royal-style pieces in sycamore maple.
- Marquetry: Prélude and Bastion pair weighted pieces with a mahogany and sycamore marquetry board.
- Woods: hornbeam, cherry, lime, boxwood. Tatras and Bastion are carved in lime wood, and Régence No. 4 is available in boxwood.
Choosing a luxury designer chess set for your home
Before installing a luxury chess set, measure the space available. A 140 mm king calls for a large board and a table to match. A king of 90 to 100 mm, as on Régence No. 5 or Saint-Germain, fits more easily on a desk.
In terms of style, two families emerge:
- classic, weighted silhouettes, made for frequent play: Sénéchal, Connétable;
- original designs that catch the eye: Tatras, the cube-shaped Bastion, and Montagnard, inspired by the highlanders of the Beskids.

Yes. They are handmade in Poland by a family workshop of cabinetmakers that has been active since 1996: the pieces are turned and then carved by hand.

Yes. The folding board of each model forms a case, with an insert or compartments for the pieces.
