Caring for Your Chess Set
Simple, regular care helps preserve the look of your set. The manufacturer's recommendations always take priority, particularly for lacquered surfaces, metal pieces and electronic devices.
Clean gently
Dust boards and pieces with a soft, clean, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents. For a stain, check the instructions for your model before using any cleaner.
Protect the materials
Avoid long exposure to sunlight, placing the set right next to a radiator, and large changes in humidity. Wipe up any spilt liquid quickly, without letting the wood soak.
Store the pieces
Use the dedicated compartments where there are any. Close the case without forcing it and check that no piece is in the way. For a board on its own, store the pieces separately to limit rubbing.
Looking after a chess clock
Use the type of battery specified by the manufacturer. For long-term storage, follow the instructions on removing the batteries. Clean the screen with a dry cloth and keep the device away from moisture.
Travelling with your set
Check the fastenings before you travel. Protect the case in a suitable bag and avoid knocks. Magnetic pieces are held in place, but this is not protection against drops.
