Digital chess clock
A chess clock measures each player’s thinking time: you press your side after making a move, and the countdown passes to your opponent. We offer DGT digital models and other clocks, from the simple timer to the chess timer with increment, delay and preset time controls.
Fischer increment, delay, sudden death: the modes
- Sudden death: each player has a fixed amount of time for the whole game. The DGT 1001 does exactly that, with no increment or delay.
- Fischer increment: a fixed amount of time is added after each move played. Endgames are less often played down to the last second. This is the function of the DGT 1002 Bonus.
- Bronstein delay: after each move, the clock gives back the time used, up to the set delay. Unlike an increment, the time available cannot grow as the moves go by.
- Byo-yomi: once the main time has run out, each move must be played within a fixed period. This mode is widely used in Go.

Frequently asked questions
Chess clock, timer, game clock: what is the difference?
None in substance. These words all describe the same device with two countdowns, one per player. “Chess clock” is the term used in clubs.
Is a chess clock without increment enough?
For friendly games, yes. If you play with an increment, choose a model that supports it, such as the DGT 1002 Bonus or the DGT 1500.
Can it be used for other games?
The wood-effect model is stated to be compatible with chess, Go, xiangqi and other two-player games.
What guarantee comes with a clock?
3-year guarantee and returns possible within 30 days. Delivery is free, in 3 to 5 working days.
