Magnetic chess sets to take anywhere
A magnetic chess set keeps its pieces in place on the board, even on your lap or on a train. Our models with magnetised pieces pack away in a compact case: handy for traveling, learning or playing anywhere, from the mini 20 cm size to the Nomade marqueté.
Which magnetic chess board should you choose?
- The most compact: Petit Nomade, mini 20 cm size, Staunton-style hornbeam pieces, in green or blue.
- Weighted pieces: Nomade noir, weighted, magnetic hornbeam and sycamore pieces, 55 mm king, 27 × 13.5 × 4 cm case.
- A marquetry board: Nomade marqueté, 30 mm squares, 28 × 14 × 4 cm case.
- For learning: Apprenti, a magnetic school chess set, 27 mm squares and 50 mm king.
- A touch of color: Nomade vert, green and cream board, light and dark pieces, green insert with individual slots.
- A first purchase: Nomade ébène, a dark board framed by coordinates.
Magnetic or magnetised: what you need to know
The two words mean the same thing: the pieces contain magnets and hold on to the board. A magnetised chess set stands out above all for its size. Its small squares, from 27 to 30 mm, make it easy to carry, at the price of a more modest king than on a living-room wooden chess set.
Before buying, look at:
- the dimensions of the closed case, if the set is going to travel in a bag;
- whether it has coordinates, useful for following a lesson or recording moves;
- the interior storage, so that every piece has its place.
These models also appear, together with Petit Trianon, in our travel chess sets.
